It’s starting to feel a bit more Autumnal in London, and we look forward to starting the season with lots of classes and workshops to inspire our creativity.
We have lined up some excellent classes and workshops in crochet, knitting, punch needle and textile techniques, where you’ll learn new and improved skills to keep you busy and inspired throughout the Autumn and Winter months.

Crochet Classes

Syd Rabbit, designed by Claire Montgomery, featured in Vintage Crochet

Let’s start with some crochet classes for October and November. It’s been a while, but we are happy to announce a beginners and improvers crochet class with Claire Montgomery! Claire is the stylist and Photoshoot Editor for Inside Crochet magazine and has taught knitting and crochet workshops for over 15 years. We are thrilled to have Claire teaching at Loop as she was Loop’s first Loopette 17 years ago and is the designer of our Syd Rabbit pattern from Vintage Crochet and the Sweetie Pie Capelet from our book, Loop’s 10!

We look forward to seeing you, ready to create some crochet magic!

We have quite a few resources if you need some inspiration or want to start planning your crochet projects. For reference books, you can peruse our crochet stitches & techniques section on our website for some great books on all things crochet. Our crochet pattern books section also has plenty of inspiration and fun projects to get you started. Finally, don’t forget to check out our large array of crochet haberdashery for essential supplies.

Knitting Classes

Knitting SOS drop in clinic with Arielle

If you’re a new knitter or just need occasional help, we have a new Knitting SOS clinic with our own Arielle Ollagnon. Arielle is your Knitting SOS guide and will be on hand for all those knitting glitches, questions, or problems you might stumble on while working on patterns.

Arielle will endeavour to help you get unstuck, learn a new stitch you might come upon in your knitting pattern, solve a problem, get some advice, or offer support while learning something new. Please remember that this is not ‘Knitting lessons’ but a resource to help you with minor problems or new things you might need some help with while knitting.

No need to book; turn up on Sunday between 10:30 -11:30 am on September 4th, October 2nd or November 6th, and we’ll try to help as best we can.

Steeking Workshop

If you are looking to take your knitting to another level or have always wanted to try to steek a garment but were afraid to try, Arielle puts her problem-solving skills to use by teaching us how to steek! Join us for a steeking workshop on Saturday, October 22nd, to learn how to safely and confidently snip your knitting. You’ll finish the workshop brimming with confidence and ready to take the scissors to everything you have ever knit!

Knitting for beginners and improvers

New beginner and improver knitting classes have been scheduled!

We also have our regular series of beginner and improver knitting evenings with new dates for the coming months. Our regular teacher, Linda Litchfield, teaches you all the basic techniques to get you started on your knitting journey in the beginners class. For those who need some practice or want to learn new skills, the improvers class will keep you challenged with colour work and finishing techniques to add to your knitting confidence.

Embroidery and Textile Classes

Make a textile house with Anne Kelly!

If you want to supplement your knitting and crochet projects with embroidery and textile crafts, you can join textile artist Anne Kelly for an exciting one-day workshop at Loop to design and make a textile house. Anne’s signature style of using recycled vintage textiles and stitching will focus on creating your ornamental lace house to take home to treasure. We still have a few places left on the October 2nd all-day workshop on stitching and talking textiles; it should be great fun! We also have some of these lovely treasures hand made by Anne in the shop.

Punch Needle Class

And finally, if you’re in the mood for something else, we have Punch Needle workshops

We are delighted to have Duygu Turgut Gökpinar returning to Loop for two punch needle workshops this Autumn. Duygu’s morning class will focus on using a regular punch needle to create work that has a thicker and chunkier appearance. The afternoon class uses a finer punch needle for more intricate work.

We love punch needle embroidery for something that’s not only beautiful but fun and simple to create. Punch needle embroidery is a fantastic introduction to a craft that uses a straightforward punch needle tool which punches fabric while holding yarn to create a wonderful and unique piece of artwork. You can use punch needle designs as home accessories like wall hangings, covers for throw cushions, or to adorn just about anything you can think up.

Don’t have the correct supplies? Not to worry, we offer the option to purchase the materials separately to make things even more accessible and allow you to carry on using your punch needle at home whenever the mood strikes. We also have some excellent punch needle supplies in our haberdashery section on our website if you’ve forgotten anything.

New in

Several magazines and books are launching in the next few weeks, including Laine magazine, Pompom quarterly and Making Stories issue 8. The newest issue of Making Stories is based on the theme of Campfire. The 13 modern, wearable knitwear designs in this issue of Making Stories will keep you cosy and warm, not only around the fire but also in your everyday adventures. You’ll be spoilt for choice with all of these lovely publications!

If you are looking for some lovely decorative additions for your new knitwear, we have just received some beautiful vintage brooches and buttons! You’ll find them in our vintage section under haberdashery and, of course, in our wide choice of buttons.

We’ve also had a restock of 52 weeks of Socks and the new paperback version of 52 Weeks of Scarves. Both are now in the shop.

And lastly, we are super excited about some new yarn that has just hit the shelves. John Arbon Textile’s Knit by Numbers yarn has arrived, and it is incredible! We are working on adding all the photos to the website, but you can already peruse most of them to start planning. We will have 93 colours to choose from and some pretty exciting plans for this yarn. More info on that is coming soon!

That’s it for this week. We wish you a wonderful weekend and happy crafting!
